Last night, I had the pleasure of attending a VIP Gala Opening event at the newly renovated cinema, previously known as VUE, located in North Wales. This special evening was a chance for a select group of guests to explore the venue before its public debut.

Arriving at the Strand Cinema around 6:30 PM felt like a nostalgic journey back in time. For those who recall my early days of blogging, this venue was once called the Apollo, where my interest in film reviews first blossomed. It was heartwarming to reconnect with familiar faces of friends and staff, creating a warm, familial atmosphere.

Guests enjoyed mingling and celebrating the occasion with complimentary bubbly, while I opted for a soft drink since I was driving. The upgrades made by Merlin Cinemas for this reopening are truly commendable.

The cinema boasts freshly made popcorn and a delightful selection of Crunchy Crisps that I couldn’t resist before settling in for a film screening organized for the guests. The seating has been significantly upgraded, particularly the Premiere/VIP seats at the back, which are wider and provide exceptional comfort. They allow for a relaxed viewing experience, complete with plush armrests.

The foyer is quite spacious, offering seating for guests waiting for friends or those who arrive early. There’s even an upstairs area with additional seating where patrons can unwind and enjoy the view through large windows.

Upon leaving the foyer, guests can turn left into the hallway where the five screens are located. Each screen is equipped with comfortable seating and is well-lit upon entry—a feature that is becoming increasingly rare in today’s cinemas.
