Happy Birthday, VOX!

It’s been one year since Gala’s unique collectible “Avatars that DeFi” VOX was first released, but it’s only the beginning. Aside from the VOX Odyssey game coming out in August 2022 and Will Wright’s VOX Metaverse called VOXverse coming soon, there is a lot to look forward to in the collectible VOX NFT world. 

Gala took a gamble on August 10, 2021 and launched a limited series of 8,888 proof-of-type avatar NFTs. The team waited with bated breath after months of brainstorming, prototypes, experiments, and copious amounts of caffeine to see how the community responded to this project that was so different from Gala’s other work. It took eight minutes for all 8,888 to sell out. It was clear from the community’s response: VOX was here to stay.

VOX turned 1 year old yesterday, and now it’s time to celebrate… and look ahead!

What Has The VOX Team Been Up To

The VOX team has been hard at work since last year’s initial drop! The second VOX series, Mirandus, was launched on December 6, 2021. Featuring dragons and halflings, this series was inspired by one of Gala’s biggest upcoming projects, allowing their team to express their creativity to its fullest.

Gala’s first major VOX partnership, The Walking Dead VOX, was released in March. Gala’s artists worked closely with AMC Networks to research and test the TWD VOX Series 3 before settling on the final version.

In May, VOX distributed Adventure Packs to the wallets of VOX holders in anticipation of Gala’s first VOX title: VOX Odyssey. The Adventure Packs are just the beginning of Odyssey’s exciting journey! Packs ranging from common to epic gave the VOX community a glimpse of what they can expect as they travel through Odyssey and build the world of VOXverse! A jar of pickles, dragon scales, and golden eggs? What could these ancient resources possibly be used for?

Gala’s June Summer of Soul event, which took place during NFT NYC, allowed the Gala team to meet many VOX community members in person.It was a VOX-inspired party where partygoers enjoyed fishing for Souls, searched for their SOULmate, enjoyed some jamming tunes, and tried some VOX-inspired food.

Gala launched their newest project in July, VOX Souls.

Where Is VOX Going Next

One of several projects highlighting the uniqueness, versatility, and utility of the VOX ecosystem will be released this month with VOX Odyssey. A Discord-exclusive text-based game, VOX Odyssey allows players to guide their VOX on adventures, collect resources, and uncover a deeper metanarrative involving a secret chicken society, multiversal travel, clashing philosophical views, and pickles. At present, the game is being tested by a small group of testers before it is made available to VOX with souls holders and then to all VOX holders.

Why should we care about VOX Odyssey? It is important to keep in mind that Odyssey is a stand-alone title, but its resources, stats, reputation, and skills have a distinct use: VOXverse. The Sims game creator Will Wright’s VOXverse is an upcoming epic metaverse. You can help better prepare your VOX for VOXverse through your experiences within VOX Odyssey, which will directly affect your experience in VOXverse.

VOX Odyssey resources, however, will have special utility even before VOXverse is released. Launching soon, the VOXverse World Builder will allow you to begin building the VOXverse before it goes live. In order to be able to build in this tool, you will need resources from VOX Odyssey and the resource packs dropped earlier this year.

With VOX Odyssey, VOX Souls wrapping, and VOXverse World Builder, one might think that VOX team has a full plate. However, they still has a lot of secrets up their sleeves!

When Gala launched VOX, the slogan was “VOX: Avatars that DeFi.” They’re still busy at work implementing that slogan behind the scenes. As Gala looks forward to the future of both VOX and DeFi, there are exciting things underway.

It’s amazing how far VOX has come over the past year. It’s even crazier when you realize where VOX is heading! Aside from two games, some crazy partnerships, and Series 4 (which Gala isn’t allowed to reveal, because otherwise the VOXFather would feed them to a hungry dragon! ), VOX is only getting started. VOX Fun Facts

• A farmer was the first VOX ever rendered. Series 1 had 8,888 VOX, but this one did not make the cut.

• All the metadata for the Town Star VOX was written by hand.
• To create the technology behind VOX, IndiaVenom rendered everything on his computer… which meant he had to check it every few hours (even overnight!) to make sure it was still working. In Series 2, the team found a better solution, much to his relief!
• VOX’s original Party Hat design for Series 1 was almost as tall as the VOX itself. To prevent it from being cut off in the images, it had to be substantially shortened. There are no images of the Party Hat in its former glory left. RIP, ridiculously tall Party Hat.
• OpenSea’s most popular Town Star VOX is not a robot or an animal. It’s Trucker VOX #6052!

 

• The Blue Dragon VOX #2054 is the most popular VOX from the Mirandus series. On the secondary market, it sold for 389.55 ETH, making it the best-selling VOX to date!

• It wasn’t planned for the Mirandus series to feature the Mirandus Dragons. Around a week before launch, Benefactor mentioned that he was looking forward to seeing the dragon VOX… After several days of frantic art and fevered programming, the dragons we all know and love were born.
• Mirandus VOX doesn’t release roughly 30% of all the designed outfits due to time constraints.
• Because of a weird glitch that would delete voxels and leave holes in their models, the programmers spent more time on the Series 3 birds and dogs than any other VOX.
• The Gala team named every outfit, color, model, and accessory for each VOX.
• The first in-person meeting of the VOX Team in October 2021 led to the first ideas that would become VOX Odyssey.
