2025 Gala And Creative Catalyst Awards

American Composers Orchestra to Host Gala and Creative Catalyst Awards

The American Composers Orchestra (ACO) is set to celebrate its fourth annual Gala and Creative Catalyst Awards on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 6:00 PM, taking place at 48 Wall Street in New York City. This prestigious event, co-chaired by Diana Elton and Melin Tan-Geller, will recognize the visionary contributions of leaders who embody the organization’s fundamental principles of artistry, creativity, community, and equity.

Gala Theme and Honorees

This year’s gala is themed “Searchlight,” highlighting artists and visionaries who have illuminated paths during times of uncertainty. The evening will be hosted by pianist Lara Downes and will honor two distinguished couples: Ray and Vivian Chew, along with Elizabeth and Justus Schlichting. The event aims to showcase the full potential of American orchestral music through a dynamic array of performances.

Performances and Artistic Showcase

The gala will feature an eclectic mix of performances by renowned artists, including Downes, composer and violinist Dr. Edward W. Hardy, interactive artist Daniel Rozin, and Jacobs School of Music Associate Professor Gabriel Jenks. Other performers include vocalist and composer Mali Irene and GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Valerie Simpson, with video design by electro-acoustic violist Trevor New. This unique experience draws inspiration from the rebellious spirit of the Prohibition Era and the glamour associated with the Roaring Twenties, creating a vibrant celebration of artistic innovation.

Supporting ACO’s Mission and Programs

Guests at the gala will enjoy an evening filled with original music by leading artists while also supporting ACO’s efforts to redefine American orchestral music for a more inclusive future. The evening will kick off with a cocktail hour at 6:00 PM, followed by dinner and performances starting at 7:00 PM. Proceeds from the event will benefit ACO’s diverse range of programs, including orchestral performances at Carnegie Hall and the EarShot Readings program, which provides mentorship for emerging composers.

Impact on Emerging Composers

Additionally, the gala will support the EarShot CoLABoratory Fellowships, aimed at fostering experimental composers, as well as ACO’s Sonic Spark educational initiatives that offer musical training to over 500 students across New York City, New Jersey, and Detroit. The event will also advance ACO’s international EarShot Publishing initiative, managed in collaboration with Boosey & Hawkes, and professional recordings of engagements, including those at Carnegie Hall.

2025 Gala Honorees: Ray and Vivian Chew, Elizabeth and Justus Schlichting

The 2025 Gala will honor Ray Chew, a noted composer and music director known for his leadership roles in major television shows and events, and his wife, Vivian Chew, a trailblazing music executive with a rich background in artist promotion. Together, they direct Chew Entertainment and actively contribute to the community through their Power2Inspire Foundation.

Visionary Patrons Supporting American Orchestral Music

Elizabeth and Justus Schlichting are also recognized for their philanthropic efforts that have significantly impacted American orchestral music. Since their commissioning efforts began in 2012, they have supported over 450 new works, furthering ACO’s mission of uplifting new voices in the orchestral landscape. Elizabeth’s musical roots and Justus’s dedication to classical music have shaped their commitment to fostering artistic evolution. Notable composers and artists, including Timo Andres and Missy Mazzoli, will be present at the gala to celebrate this impactful evening.
